Last month my daddy turned 70 and I planned an epic surprise party to celebrate the wonderful guy that he is. Boy was it a night to remember! When I started planning this party I had no idea the joy that it would bring me. But as all the details and thoughts started to come to life I realized that this entire party planning process was nothing but one amazing trip down memory lane. As I went through the hundreds and thousands of photos of him over the years I was reminded at what an extraordinary 70 years it has been. The them for this party was easy, since we rented a 120 foot yacht we went with a nautical theme!
You too can rent the Royal Princess by visiting Pacific Avalon Yacht Charters or browse the collection of boats and yachts they have to find the one that suits your needs.
Keeping with the nautical theme we opted for a real life preserver which was custom made with Dennis’ photo for everyone to sign. This was a fun play on a traditional guest book.
The color pallet for the party was blue, gold, and white, to make our modern yacht party come to life! I had flowers, balloons, and linens brought in to give the right detail and continue with our fun theme.
I had this custom cake made by Cinderella Cakes and it even included a firecracker topper! Now THAT was an amazing special effect. I rimmed the cake in navy blue with white ivory swirls, gold Happy Birthday, and a gold 70 on top. Simple, clean, modern, and still nautical.
To make his day extra special I asked all his friends and relatives to not only be there for the surprise, but to help me create this amazing “70 Things We Love About You” sign for him.
And to dress the party I rented this AMAZING Jet Set Diaries maxi from my go-to event rental stylist, Emily, from The Stylist LA. Whatever your event, be it wedding, bridal shower, baby shower, or just a night out with your guy or best gals she has all the latest and greatest dresses to keep you looking fabulous!
And finally I created a custom video showing photos from throughout my dad’s life. We had this playing continuously throughout the event and it was a great way for everyone to relive their fondest memories with “Uncle Denny.”
And in true Caldwell fashion, we partied hearty. It was a beautiful evening for a wonderful man I’m so lucky to call my papa.
